The new CP 750 by Dolby does not have an active cross over like the CP 650. The QSC 300 brochure does not talk about multi plexing but has the active cross over. That must be giving headeaks to theater owners .

True, Cradeldorf. Lack of new interest could be a generational thing. Earphones seem to be the go and little cabs with subs the preference for the 'more moderns'. DIY in the modern world seems to be connecting up a ready made system.

No. BUT it is an Altec board. People who want small speakers don't face a shortage of places. Can somebody make a SERIOUS case for lots of RANDOM off topic posts? I see none. As far as this post, nothing against digital processing. But wouldn't digital for home be much more useful? I don't think any of us are planning to install a theater.
Convergence has a habit of recording and other posts. Probably two thirds of his posts are NOT Altec related. He never labels them off topic. I'm asking him to make the MAJORITY of his posts Altec related, and label off topic on a reduced amount of such posts. I don't care for the off topic rule either. BUT I comply. Guests should follow house rules. It's like not wiping your feet at the door.
Yes I make car posts. But 90% of my posts are Altec related and the majority of his are not.
If your main activity is random posts, why do it on a specialized board? I am sure with little effort he can make Altec related posts.

The off topic rule does serve a purpose..I have been told by Steven that it should or is supposed to help with the search results when using the Search Function... As we have tens of thousands of threads now, it will help folks search for topics much quicker by weeding out the irrelevant OT threads. I know we all have looked for info here that we forgot what thread it was in only to find dozens of threads to have to go through..It will make the info easier to find, so I'm told..But does it actually work that is another matter entirely...
Also as we are a specialized board, your right, that it is proper etiquette to state posts OT when they are not Altec related..
At least the post is cinema related, if still OT. Altec speakers were used a lot in cinemas, IIRC. :P
Speaking of which, went to lunch in another part of town th other day. Found an old multiplex that I thought was shut down. I was ready to raid it for amps and speakers!! Alas for my plans, it's been converted into a $1.50 second run house. I try to keep an eye on these things. Too many times all the sound gear gets hauled to the dump when a cinema is torn down.

I was on a different speaker forum the other day. The main thread was on VOTT and it was still going strong after 2 years. They compared 3 main HF drivers from Altec 288 , JBL and TAD with a radial horn. Their conclusions are interresting . The altec 288 8b had the best natural sound. The JBL 2445J was good but the titanium diaphragm gave it a bit of harhsness. The Tad TD4001 was to analytical and voices were to artificial.

A visit to Raoul (Rliyung) and Alain (Audiotechno) in Dominica was the opportunity of listening compared these three engines:
- ALTEC 288B Aluminum diaphragm with 2 "adapter
- JBL 2445J Titanium diaphragm
- TAD TD4001 Beryllium diaphragm
For this exercise:
- Using the same pavilion: in the TAD TH 4001 version Replica.
- 3-way system: VOT / Altec 515-8G, JBL 2405H and filter series / parallel (zeta = 1, Fc = 640 Hz, 9000 Hz = Bc1). The three engines are 16 ohm and even equalization level.
- 300B SE Amp AN.
- Musical Excerpts: Michel Jonaz "time past" and Shirley Horn "Beautiful Love" (CD1 M?laudia)
My first impression: 3 engines and 3 different plays.
- ALTEC 288B: natural, soft voice, very nice and very good tonal balance with other HP merger.
- JBL 2445J: voice slightly "ess?es" high and the medium rather "noisy", however, agrees very well with other HP. Contributes to a great dynamic together.
- TAD TD4001: midrange despite a very rich and very (too?) Analytical voices seem a little artificial, suddenly merging with other HP was seen as fairly average (maybe a pb phasing or equalization). Still an excellent overall dynamics.
I hope you found this interresing and more in tune with the purpose of this forum.
